snow filled field.

WALT:Paint the picture with words.

It is Winter, the coldest season of the year. On a soccer field white frosty snow has fallen. The sun is rising all is white.White misty fog fills the air. The snow felt frosty it melted in my hand. The trees have no leaves, it is definitely Winter. The sun is shining bright on the sparkling frosty snow. I felt a light breeze, it might of been a light breeze but it was freezing. As the snowflakes fell I saw the little patterns on them. I decided to make a snow angel. When I layed down I taste the snow. It tasted like a snow cone with no flavour. I got brain freeze. After I when home to have a nice hot chocolate, with little marshmallows. When I got home I sat in a warm blanket by the fire.

Giant tortoises of galpagos island

                                                         This is my reading.

Knowledge: List 5 facts you learnt from the text.

  1. That tortoises can live till their 160 years old.
  2. That there's only one pinta tortoises.
  3. Tortoises weigh can be up to 150 to 200 kilograms.
  4. Tortoises can survive without food or water for months.
  5. That tortoises are almost extinct.

Comprehension 1. What are some of the problems the tortoise's face? 2. What is the Charles Darwin Research Station trying to do and how are they doing it?

Some of the problems that face tortoises is that they almost extinct. Goats, cats, dogs and donkeys like to their babies and like to eat them. People might want to kill them. The Charles Darwin Research Station are trying to get female tortoises to mate up with male tortoises. They are trying to make the tortoises lay eggs. The Charles Darwin Research Station is going to save the galapagos tortoises.

Application Research and write a description of the Galapagos tortoises.

Galapagos tortoises are huge tortoises they have very long necks. Galapagos tortoises are half the height of a human. Some galapagos tortoises have a dome like shell. Other galapagos tortoises have a curve like shell. When galapagos are being hunted by other animals they go into their shell. Their shell can protect them. Galapagos tortoises are one of the biggest tortoises in the world. Galapagos tortoises have stumpy feet, covered in scaly skin. They have strong jaws without teeth. Female galapagos tortoises can lay between 2 to 16 eggs.

Analysis Categorise the paragraphs from the article into subheadings in the correct order.

Galapagos island is off the west coast of Ecuador. Galapagos is Spanish for tortoises. Not one person knows how the tortoises got on galapagos island. The only other area that giant tortoises live is in the Indian ocean. Maybe the tortoises got washed up on plante to shore from South America.

There was once eleven species on galapagos island, but five endangered and 3 are extinct. A species called the Pinta tortoises has only one of it’s kind. The Charles Darwin Research Station is trying to find a female Pinta tortoises to mate with the male. Giant tortoises can walk 55 meters in 10 minutes.
The male tortoises grow bigger than the female. The biggest male tortoises was just over a meter. It weigh 150 to 200 kilograms. Tortoises would travel a long way to find water. The tortoises that come from highland areas have a dome like shell. Tortoises from smaller, driven island have saddle like shells.

Galapagos tortoises can survive months without food or water. In the past whalers, sealers and pirates use to get galapagos tortoises and kill them for fresh meat. These days mammals like like goats, donkeys, cats and dogs compete for their food. Destroy their eggs and kill their babies. Charles Darwin Research Stations is trying to stop tortoises coming extinct. Their are giving an award to whoever finds a female Pinta tortoises.

Synthesis- New Ideas Create a poster/infographic/google drawing or animation about the Galapagos tortoises.
